Today was a travel day and we made it first to the Rancherias Falls Recreational Site to take a look at the falls.
This will be our way of documenting our trip to Alaska for ourselves as well as our family and friends.

Yukon Watson Lake 28 June 2019
We saw more bear and bison on the road north, and we picked up another windshield rock chip, but we made it safely to the Yukon Territory and into Watson Lake.

Laird Hot Springs 27 June 2019
After we left Toad River, we decided to stop at Laird Hot Springs. I got in and it was sooo relaxing. I couldn’t take a picture of myself, but I promise I did go in. One of my travel mates took a picture of me and when I get it, I will post it. For now, this is the HOT end of the springs. The water is 129 degrees when it comes out of the ground. There are a couple of cool springs that feed into it as well, so it cools off pretty quick.

Toad River 26 June 2019
Today was a short travel day, but it was a lot of steep grades both up and down and curves through the mountains. We pulled into the campground and got to pick our site. I picked the one by the water and pulled straight in instead of backing in. This the view from within our camper.
Fort Nelson 25 June 2019
Yesterday was a stop over campground for one night in the wilderness. We didn’t have any WiFi, nor cell service, so I was not able to post anything. The one good thing about the place was that they had a great little cafe and we got a hardy breakfast before taking off this morning. For the most part, this all we could see for most of the trip, but we did see another bear on the side of the road.

Dawson City 22 - 24 June 2019
We made it into Dawson City, the beginning of the Alaskan Highway. We were able to hit a number of the sights around town as there is a lot to see. We visited the Historic Milepost 0, the Dawson Creek Station Museum, the Dawson Creek Art Gallery (in a restored grain silo), The Alaska Highway House, the Walter Wright Pioneer Village, and the Kiskatinaw Bridge (longest curved wooden bridge and a part of the original Alaskan Highway.
Chetwynd B.C. 24 June 2019
The small town of Chetwynd has a chainsaw carving competition every year where carvers from all over the world come to compete. The entire town has carvings on every block of every street. Here are the top three winners for this year.

British Columbia 22 June 2019
We crossed over from Alberta to British Columbia today and stopped in Dawson Creek. Of course I had to snap a picture of the world’s largest wood carving of a Beaver as we passed through the little town of Beaver Lodge. Tomorrow we will do a lot of sightseeing as the caravan has given us a Master Pass to all of the local sights.

Whitecourt 20-21 June 2019
After a morning of sleet as we prepared to pull out, the drive was rain most of the trip. But we arrived safely, and decided to hunker down for the day and get some laundry done. The next day was much better and we went to the Alberta Forestry Interpretive Center for an interesting presentation on how the forestry industry has evolved over the years and how they are managing it today. Here are a couple of pictures of the old equipment and buildings from days past.

Rocky Mountain House Alberta 19 June 2019
Boy am I glad we went back to the Head Smashed In site this morning. We were treated to a special tour by a local Indian, little feather, who is 93 years old, but gets around better than some people with us.

Canada 18 Jun 2019
First travel day, only 218 miles to Fort MacCleod in Alberta. We made it through the Border Guards with only a few questions. I meant to take a picture as we were approaching the Border Station, but I forgot (nervous about the questions - I was over the limit on a couple of items). In any case, we made it to Fort MacCleod and the roads were actually quite smooth. After arriving, Lisa and I went out to the Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site. It was later in the afternoon so we decided not to go in for the few minutes remaining. We may try again in the morning on the way out.

Great Falls, Montana 14 - 17 June 2019
After 2910 miles, we finally have reached our starting point. We arrived at Dick’s RV park and met up with some of the SMART caravan crew. They gave us a ton of information which will take me a while to go through. Since we have been in the area for a while we have pretty much scoped out and done several suggested activities.
Great Falls is named after the falls which run through the town, but it is actually five falls spaced out from each other. And, one of them has actually been dammed up for a hydroelectric plant.

Malmstrom AFB FamCamp
This is a nice location just outside of the main gate. After taking a walk along the perimeter path we noticed a multitude of prairie dogs popping out of their holes.
Lisa said they look like “Whack-a-moles”

The name of the FamCamp is “Gateway”
Carvings of Lewis and Clark at the entrance!

Great Falls, Montana
Today was much easier day, we made it to Malmstrom AFB here in Great Falls in just four hours. We finally started seeing mountains with snow on the trip. This was our first experience with steep inclines and declines in this RV, and to my pleasant surprise, it handled better than I had expected. We arrived at the FamCamp which is really nice and reasonably priced. We will be staying here for about a week while we wait for our caravan to form up. We will do a little sightseeing till then.

Billings, Montana
Today was a long day, 9 hours driving. I have to say that Wyoming has the best interstate highways I have ever driven on. In any case we made it all the way across the state and into Montana. Tomorrow should be an easier day of only 219 miles. We plan on staying at the FamCamp on Malmstrom AFB there in Great Falls for a couple of days before hooking up with our caravan group.

Cheyenne WY - Warren AFB FamCamp
After leaving Shreveport, we drove until dusk and stopped in a rest area, got and made it to Cheyenne. We will stay here for two nights to get some laundry done and rest up a little before pushing on. FYI, there is a herd of antelope that share this campground with us.
