This will be our way of documenting our trip to Alaska for ourselves as well as our family and friends.

Rocky Mountain House Alberta 19 June 2019

Boy am I glad we went back to the Head Smashed In site this morning.  We were treated to a special tour by a local Indian, little feather, who is 93 years old, but gets around better than some people with us.

I assumed that the name came from the Buffalo heads being smashed in, but it was really about a young brave who wanted to see the buffalos as they hit the earth, so he went to the bottom of the cliff and the herd came over the cliff and when the tribe started uncovering the Buffalo (actually they are Bison) they found the brave with his head smashed in.  This is the actual cliff that they used to stampede them over.  And since we had retired military ID cards, we got in for free.

The Indians claimed that they had been doing this for thousands of years. So they dug down to bottom of all the bones at that site and found Indian articles which dated back more than 6000 years.
They also had a cafe, where I got a bowl of Buffalo Chili, but Mom didn’t want to try the Buffalo Burger, so she got an Angus Beef Burger.

We also stopped at a site where a glacier had carried a bolder down with it and when the glacier melted, it left the bolder in the middle of the field.  This is supposed to be the largest one ever found that was moved by a glacier.  That is Lisa and Emma walking toward the bolder, notice the people standing on top of it.
